DJS Research Ltd, one of the leading market research agencies in the North of England, has been recognised at a regional level as 2014’s Business of the Year at the Stockport Business Awards. The agency, which this year also came out top of a UK-wide government procurement process featuring more than 500 companies, has seen permanent staff increase by 29% in the last twelve months, with turnover for the last financial year hitting slightly just under £3 million, and profits increasing two fold.
The judges said of DJS’ entry: “DJS Research operates in a tough industry and combat this by expanding in to new markets which we think should be applauded.”
Speaking about the awards success, Danny Sims, Managing Director, said the following:
“To be named as Stockport’s Business of the Year for 2014 is a huge accolade for everyone at DJS Research – including all our research and operations staff, our marketing, finance and support teams, our fantastic team of telephone interviewers and our national network of face to face interviewers and recruiters, to name just a few.
“Having seen the programme on the night, we were up against some really stiff competitors, including someone who had previously won the Business Person of the Year award, so the success is all the better for having had such strong competition. I’d like to congratulate everyone who won on the night, and everyone who was shortlisted for an award – Stockport and the surrounding area is a thriving business area and so just to make the awards ceremony is a massive achievement. Finally, many thanks to Clarke Nicklin for organising the event and to everyone who put their time in to making it a success, it was a fantastic night.”
As well as the wider company being selected as Business of the Year, DJS Research also had individual success – with Alasdair Gleed being named the region’s Business Person of the Year and Elliot Simmonds shortlisted for Young Business Person of the Year.
Alasdair has been a key business winner for the agency, as well as appearing in a number of regional and national news websites and recorded interviews, and driving forward a range of new techniques including the specialist Localise methodology. His major new client wins include NS&I, Research Councils UK and the NHS Business Services Authority and he was a lead member of the team which submitted a proposal for the UK-wide procurement framework. The findings of his research report on behalf of Booktrust, published on the Guardian, have received nearly 7,000 social shares from that site alone.
Speaking about Alasdair, the judging panel had the following to say: “Alasdair is obviously a key member of the DJS team. He brings in a large amount of new customers and seems to look at the bigger picture for the greater good of the business.
With around eight years' experience working in both marketing and market research, Elliot works extensively with small businesses to develop their marketing strategy as a consultant when away from PBN.
He has featured as PR and market expert on the Guardian Small Business, judged the UK Blog Awards in 2014, and was short listed as Stockport Young Business Person of the Year in the same year.
