The family business, now in its 147th year and its fifth generation, has grown 34% this year during a period of major change and expansion. The warehouse will allow for bulk buying as well as higher levels of stock to be held at the Stephensons premises, resulting in improved service to its customer base. The company was originally founded in 1868 by Henry George Stephenson, and is now managed by Henry Stephenson. Stephensons supplies operators with light catering equipment from glassware and tableware to clothing, to commercial kitchen appliances, as well as janitorial supplies and disposables.

Staff numbers at the catering supplier have doubled since 2005, including the expansion of its customer services department from 4 to 10 staff members in 2015. High demand from customers across the UK led the company to invest in an 18 tonne lorry, as well as a fleet of 10 vans, and its 2015 catalogue was the biggest to date, providing 1,923 new product lines.

Henry Stephenson, Managing Director at Stephensons, said: “We have enjoyed major growth in 2014/15 and the benefits have been passed on to our customers. Online sales have reached an impressive milestone and the business has continued to grow.

“Stephensons’ customers know that to keep up with dining trends, it is essential to embrace the kind of innovations that we have been bringing to the UK market for nearly 150 years. The acquisition of the new warehouse is an exciting development that will help Stephensons continue its growth throughout 2016.”
