The #KingOf award was established by Aqua Design Group following the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, and has a sister award – #QueenOf. Each week, businesses from across the UK take part in the online event with a view to being selected as that week’s #KingOf or #QueenOf their specialist area.

Funky Readers was selected last week as the #KingOf Funky Reading glasses, following a tweet to Aqua Design Group which outlined the drive of Martin Cunningham, one of the company’s two directors, who works alongside his wife Judith.

Speaking about the award win, Martin said:

“To be awarded the #KingOf award is a brilliant achievement in itself: hundreds of companies enter the award and only a small number are ever chosen, so for us it’s a great accomplishment.

“We didn’t actually realise that Aqua Design Group were based in Stockport, and so that was a great surprise as well – it’s always fantastic when businesses from the same area can get together and be part of a larger whole!”

Funky Readers operate two online stores – and – and provide customers from all over the world access to fashionable reading glasses, sun glasses and other eye wear accessories produced by designers all over Europe.

Since being formed by the couple in 2012, the company has grown from strength to strength, and now supplies customers from the UK, Europe, the United States a number of other global locations. The company was one of the Guardian’s start-up of the year nominees in 2014.
