Funky Readers Shortlisted As Most Promising Young Business: The Bramhall business, which offers fashionable reading glasses and sunglasses via two websites, has been shortlisted in the Stockport Business Awards 2015.
Martin Cunningham, owner of Funky Readers with his wife Judith, had the following to say:
“For us to be shortlisted for the Stockport Business Awards is a huge accolade. Stockport is full of so many fantastic businesses, many of whom are relatively new to the market and who are succeeding very quickly – to be recognised as one of the most promising among these is a real boost to us here at Funky!
We would like to thank everyone who has been involved in Funky Readers – including our suppliers, designers and of course, our customers! We really couldn’t have done it without you and we hope this is just the first award of many for our business.”
Funky Readers was formed in 2013 following a trip to Siena. Martin and Judith Cunningham spent many years working in the law profession, but on a trip to Italy realised that reading glasses and other eye wear available on the Continent was far more aesthetically pleasing than what was available in the UK.
A driving principle for the company has always been to be customer-centric and to provide an individual service. This includes ensuring all packages are tracked, and corresponding with customers directly about their purchase – something which is reflected in reviews from customers published on the company’s websites.
From a small range of 3-4 brands, the company’s offering has expanded to more than 12 brands, a range of accessories and in early 2015 a second website was added to aid in differentiation between premium brands such as Eye Respect and See Concept, and ‘fun and funky’ brands such as Apro, Aptica and Papp-UP.
With around eight years' experience working in both marketing and market research, Elliot works extensively with small businesses to develop their marketing strategy as a consultant when away from PBN.
He has featured as PR and market expert on the Guardian Small Business, judged the UK Blog Awards in 2014, and was short listed as Stockport Young Business Person of the Year in the same year.
